07/01/10 Rose Garden 13.30 14.7 0:54 I don't know if I'll ride here a lot this summer. There were lots of people with kids and dogs. There were old people. I scared this one old woman who was walking the path 'cause she didn't hear me coming up behind her. After that happened I knew that it was time to leave. I had some cheering again. This time it was a pack of young kids. They were yelling "Hi" and "I like your hair". It's interesting how people always feel compelled to yell at dudes on bikes.

06/16/10 Rose Garden 16.42 16.2 1:00 Another hour of top gear laps. If it weren't for all of the pedestrians I'd be able to hold 20 MPH the whole trip. Talkin' about pedestrians, there was this small group of women with a dude walkin' the path. I must've lapped them about 10 times and every time I passed them the one girl kept saying hi to me and waving at me and cheering me on. I think that she was into me a bit. Either that or she was inebriated. It's hard to tell sometimes. There was this dog trainer dude walkin' the path too. He had his pooch pretty well trained. I was into watching that.

06/11/10 Rose Garden 12.53 14.5 0:52 The word is out. There were more people out there today. And some dude was talking to a friend on his phone sayin', “Yeah, they got this nice path out here now that you can ride on and stuff”. I thought to myself, “Dude, don't tell your friends about the path. Let's try to keep this secret between me you and your dog”. Of course, I'm technically goin' global with this information by postin' about the path on the Internet. So, who's the bigger narc? It's cool though. As long as they don't post up No Bikes signs I'll be cool about having to slow down for pedestrians every few minutes. I can still keep a good clip goin' most of the time. There was a geriatric outing today. There were staff people walking around the path with about 20 elderly women in tow. I had to come to a complete stop to pass through all that. But it's cool to see everyone enjoying the path. That's what it's there for. I'm diggin' it. It's so close to my Mom's house. I can just roll down there and lay down a dozen laps or so in about an hour and just roll back home. The Bianchi is gonna get hit hard this summer.

07/02/09 Bethlehem 9.76 15.1 0:40 Saw a female mallard get murdered by the wheel of a car. She ran out in front of me and right into the path of the car. There were feathers everywhere. It was NOT cool.

09/28/08 Bike MS: C2S 73.95 15.5 4:45 We got up around 0530 on Sunday morning. We went to the breakfast at the pier. We got in the “hot food” line by accident but we stayed in it and got hot food. I usually just eat the cold stuff like bagels, doughnuts, cereal and stuff like that but the pancakes and meat were pretty good. Emily decided that she wouldn’t be able to ride back so she and Steve took the bus back to the Patco station. So I rode the whole second day by myself too. It was just like old times. I left OC around 0800. That was the latest start I’ve ever had on day two. The second day was a bit dreary. It rained almost the entire ride. But it was a soft rain and it actually felt good since it was still relatively warm out. It only poured a couple of times and even then it was only for a short time. I felt pretty good during the ride and actually rode a little stronger than I did on Saturday. I didn’t feel a need to stop at all but I did make one stop at one of the last rest stops about 20 miles before the end because I was running outta Gatorade and my chain was getting squeaky from all the water. So I forced myself to make a stop. I filled up my bottles and asked one of the mechanics at the stop to lube my chain. I called Steve and let him know that I’d be at the station soon then I took off again. I pulled into the Patco station around 1300 or so. I called Steve. They were at the van. He drove the van from EDS to Patco and they joined me for some pizza and a gourmet Carrabba’s dinner that was made for all VIP riders. That was a new treat. We don’t usually get that. It was good too. I had a few shots of that Krank’d stuff. That stuff tasted pretty good after a long ride. I registered myself for 2009 and then we went back to the van. I got changed and we headed home.

09/27/08 Bike MS: C2S 73.79 15.2 4:49 When I got to Steve’s his house looked really dark. I called his phone and he answered. He was still sleeping. But amazingly he and Emily got ready in like 15 minutes and we were off. We got to the station in good time and parked at EDS. We walked over to the Patco station to greet some people at the team tent and get Emily’s numbers and then headed back to the van. We ended up missing the team picture AGAIN for the second year in a row even though we were there. We hafta remedy that. I wanna be in that picture. We rolled back to the station and waited for the team start and took off after 0700. As usual I hung back in the packs in the beginning ‘cause I don’t feel comfortable passing when there’s so many people spread out on the road. So I just find my place in the pack and stay there. Steve and Emily got ahead of me then and I never saw them again until we met at the hotel room at the beach. Steve got a new phone and I didn’t have his number. Even though he called from the road a couple of times my phone didn’t pick up his number. It wasn’t until I was waiting for them at the second last rest stop (the one with the voodoo dude) that I caught his number on my phone when he called me there and I was able to call him back. They were 10 miles behind me at that point so we decided that I should just roll on. Other than that one stop I didn’t make any stops on the first day. I just kept riding. It rained a little at the Patco station that morning but it didn’t rain at all during the ride or at the beach that day. It was overcast but we saw a little sun here and there. And it was a comfortable 70 degrees or so. Steve and I even enjoyed a swim in the ocean. We’re renaming the tour “City to Ocean” or “C2O” because we literally go beyond the shore. At the beach I enjoyed the usual foods; hot dogs, pierogies, cookies at the team tent and the VIP chicken dinner. I also ate the spaghetti dinner with Steve and Emily later on and had some ice cream. We got to sleep pretty early.

09/25/08 Home 2.78 14.3 0:12 It's different riding the Bianchi. I'm so used to the "big dog" Dale with the stretched out bars. The handle bars on the Bianchi are so narrow. The steering is naturally quicker. It took a couple spins for me to get used to that. Which is exactly why I rode it for my commute. Jihad!
Odometer = 909.6
09/24/08 Work 2.59 13.5 0:12 I tuned the Bianchi up today to get it ready for the tour. I decided to ride it to work to make sure that I can ride 5 miles on it before I attempt to ride 150. As you can see I haven't ridden it since the tour last year. But it's in good shape. It'll be all ready for the weekend. Unfortunately it doesn't float though.

09/30/07 MS150 C2S 72.10 15.7 4:35 We started the second day with a solid breakfast at the pier. I think that we took off at 0700. Steve hung with me the whole day. He dropped me a few times but then slowed up. I rode pretty well though. My knees were sore but that's normal. We only stopped once to get some fuel and liquid. We saw the Asbel's and Kincaid's there. Some dude endo-ed and took a nice crash right in front of Steve at one point. Steve swerved around him without crashing into him. The dude didn't seem like he was hurting that bad but he might have broken his arm or something. The weather this weekend was the best weather that I ever experienced for this tour. I've done it in a cold rain. I've done it in blazing heat. I've ridden through gale force winds. But this time it was just pleasant fall weather with clear, sunny skies. One notable thing about this year is that I rode the entire tour in one gear. I didn't shift once. In fact, whatever gear my bike was in when I took it off the ceiling at home and put it in the van is the gear that I rode in. This was the first time that I ever raised over a thousand dollars and experienced being a VIP rider. I had more sponsors this year than ever before. They stepped it up. Maybe that's why I rode so well. When we got back to the Patco station we enjoyed some pizza. A woman who seemed severely effected by MS rolled up to me in her wheelchair. I smiled and said hello. And she smiled and gave both of us one of these commemorative patches that she was handing out and thanked us for riding. She seemed so sweet. That's when you really understand why were doing this.

09/29/07 MS150 C2S 74.04 16.5 4:29 I performed so much better this year than last year. Which is surprising since I pretty much didn't train for this at all this year. Steve broke away from me at the beginning. He was on a mission to complete the century which he did. Right at the beginning a big, rusty staple penetrated my rear tire. It went in and came out of the sidewall. I'm surprised that it didn't puncture the tube. I carefully removed it and it was solid for the whole weekend. I have brand new Bontrager's on there and they're pretty thick for a road tire. I stopped at 2 rest stops on the first day. I saw a butterfly get hit by a van. That was different. I don't know where the power was coming from this year but I was glad that it was there. I was cranking good. Got to the beach and ate some pierogies and hot dogs and then got our hotel room lined up and changed into my swimming suit. Went back to the finish line and waited for Steve. Then we had our VIP dinner which consisted of an entire small chicken. It was pretty rad. Then Steve went and got changed. Then we went to the spaghetti dinner and also went swimming in the ocean. Then we went back to the hotel to change and came back to the boardwalk to get some pizza. We only had one ice cream cup this year which we got at the dinner. Last year we ate a lot of ice cream for some reason. That was day one.

05/08/07 Rodale 32.76 16.1 2:02 Had a cold bottle in the fridge since last year. I put it on the bike. When I went to take the first sip I was violated by the taste of a sour sports drink. One bottle wasn’t enough for this ride. But it was a nice ride.

09/17/06 MS150 C2S 76.86 15.2 5:02 Beautiful day. I was sore but rode just as good as day one. Flatted out AGAIN before the last 15. Rear tire. The SAG dudes stopped and hooked it up though. Steve was pretty much ahead of me this whole tour. Gonna hafta remedy that.
Odometer = 646.3
09/16/06 MS150 C2S 77.11 15.1 5:05 The first 15 miles were ridden in a solid rain. But it gradually cleared up as we got closer to the shore. I had a blowout. The rear tire, of course. The shop dudes hooked it up for me. The beach is nice. We hit the ocean.

08/08/06 L Route 60.27 14.4 4:09 Didn’t go quite as far but felt WAY stronger. Food = good. Had 2 PB splints and a banana. Passed Rodale and dipped in there for a few laps. Average is kinda beat. It says, “GO FLOYD” on that one road now. Used to say, “LANCE”.
Odometer = 486.6(445.3)
07/13/06 L Route 68.72 13.8 4:58 I was hurtin’ on the last 15 miles. Brought enough liquids but no food. No food = no good. Foolish. Took the L a little farther than usual. There’s some nice sights out there. Saw Marge on Hamilton right before I got home.
Odometer = 424.8(334.8)
06/01/06 Trexler 17.31 15.9 1:05 A quick ride to earn dinner. No one there when I got in but it filled up gradually. Beat the rain home. I rode jersey-less. Are you into that? This was all top gear action. I like doing that to build power. The Klein is done!

05/31/06 Home 2.63 14.7 0:10 Sand? We live nowhere near the beach. Why is there sand all over my bike route? It’s a little nervous when you’re riding on skinny road tires. Bad move forgetting my sunglasses. I felt like a blue-eyed vampire this morning.

05/30/06 Work 2.43 13.0 0:11 I was one sweaty, thirsty bastard tonight. Computer must be still screwy ‘cause the mileage came out low. I didn’t notice it drop out on me though. This is not helping me in the challenge. I forgot my sunglasses. Imagine that.

05/30/06 Home 2.64 15.0 0:10 Only needed a Phillips to fix that sensor problem. Turns out there’s a screw to tighten the bracket. Problem resolved. There was a bat flying around the house when I came home. Dad’s probably still trying to escort him out.
Odometer = 331.7(182.3)
05/29/06 Work 2.16 11.3 0:11 Computer wasn’t working due to loose bracket on sensor. Repositioned it but it moved a couple times. Lost data. Hafta rig it tonight so that it will stay put. Got the meanest dry spot in my throat after this ride. I hate that!
Odometer = 328.9(179.7)
05/24/06 Home 2.80 15.0 0:10 My computer wasn’t working right. I’m hoping that it’s just ‘cause of the cold. I wasn’t gonna take the time to troubleshoot. So I just ran the timer and estimated the other data based on the elapsed time.
Odometer = 329.2(177.5)
05/23/06 Work 2.56 13.7 0:11 Sign is still there. Have yet to find the island or the party. Maybe I’ll look harder for it on my day off. I’ll party like its 1999. This is my last shift. I hope to add some decent mileage this week. Just gotta fit it in.
